Non Profit Fund Raising

Profitable Non-Profits
My guest post today by Randy Seitz, a 17-year veteran of community and economic development, specialized attraction to new industry, local development of the industry, the development of human resources and international trade. Randy is currently President and Chief Operating Officer of the Oil Region Alliance of Business, Industry & Tourism. Randy takes the traditional approaches of "nonprofit" and turn it on its ear – the challenge Status quo in every aspect of its operations. I am inspired by Randy innovative thoughts turn to a non-profit a self-sustaining unit. This is a fabulous example of Defying Gravity for us all.
I have recently completed the development agencies of my next five-year strategic plan. Our two main goals were to is much more efficient in the way that we achieve our corporate mission and vision, the self-sufficient and financially over the next five years. The plan for success will require that the organization is a change in the way they normally adopt and redefine how they create and develop fund. In other words, we have challenge the status quo and defy gravity in order to achieve great success. That's why I have recently purchased, for my entire management team has a new book Rebel Brown of "gravity". The book removes the status quo and provides practical advice to business leaders avoid crash-and-burn strategies of yesterday. I recommend this book to all CEOs struggling with change, change in dealing with new and unique ways to implement lead organizations to new heights. Rebel suggests that the way we've always done it may limit our success and I agree!
Status quo in the nonprofit world's development fund. Traditional Fund development is simply the acquisition of resources to advance the mission of an organization. It is the process by which an organization fundraising to build the capacity and sustainability to build and it is part of the strategic marketing of a non-profit organization. Fund development has two sides, however, it is not only to collect money, but also in the development of reliable sources of revenue that the organization is through the realization of his long-term mission and vision to maintain it. Successful fund development requires a strategic plan that funding is based on the purpose and programs of the organization. However, I contend that in these tough economic times Nonprofit organizations must radically change their view and accept the concept of development funds to a whole new level. You must, as Rebel Brown teaches in her book, Gravity … Challenging the status quo!
It is my contention in these difficult economic times, nonprofit organizations that are a burden on the economy. It seems that some companies have struck again and again and again by local nonprofit organizations for donations and memberships in mass numbers. Each of Industry and Trade Chambers, human society is to ask for small businesses. Well, those are all fantastic, mission driven organizations, while the wonderful things are, in order to improve the quality of life in their respective communities, but unfortunately they are heavily on donations from small businesses. As the economy weakens more and less of this money from small businesses to these groups and the competition for these dollars among all nonprofit organizations in a community support is at an all time high. There are simply not enough money for everyone and I am afraid that many nonprofit organizations face close their doors in the coming years if they have a make fundamental changes in the way they work. I believe that nonprofit organizations can not simply continue to operate with the same old model.
The solution to this problem, which I accepted and I am encouraged to consider other nonprofit CEOs is also, as we in social entrepreneurship to search. Social entrepreneurship needs to be considered on a whole new way. Social Entrepreneurship is usually the use of traditional business techniques to a social problem or address the cause. I want to change the status quo, defy gravity, looking at social entrepreneurship as a way for nonprofit Organizations, new funding sources by for-profit means developing. I would like to define social entrepreneurship as a nonprofit organization, structure and operation be a separate for-profit venture to support its charitable mission. In other words, all benefit from the new company going to the long-term mission and vision of nonprofit support. Therefore, the profit would need less money in private contributions. For example, market the humane society to sell private-label brand of dog food in grocery stores nationally. The YMCA was able to sell and to sell exercise videos in the United States. An economic Development group could develop and sell commercial and residential real estate. With the adoption of a new way of operating, there was the potential millions of dollars in revenue generate for these groups, which could go towards the long-term financial sustainability of the nonprofit.
To the organization that I serve, is the entire community through the creation of new jobs and investment in the region and promoting the region's assets to tourists who spend money with local To attract retailers. For the most part we are a member-based organization. The funds we raise primarily come from the members themselves and for the purpose of Maintaining the organization uses needs. For example, the money for our programs and operations required in the form of dues to the organization or in the form donations are collected. There is a high degree of correlation between the economy and although the membership. Therefore, if the economy is bad, we can expect Membership to be lower. Simply requires the organization means to its service to the community year after year to keep. So, there is no way that we fully can rely on membership dollars and still survive long into the future.
In addition to membership dollars, we must also focus on a small base of government support for specific tourism and historic preservation programs will use. And the fact of the matter, which often means we need from a variety of Sources to increase, just to keep our budget. That's why I think it is so important and crucial for a fund development strategy which allows the organization to generate create new revenue streams by for-profit means. You can see how, as an organization, it would make sense for us to develop and sell commercial properties as a way to generate new revenue streams. The more money we can generate on our own, the less money we are asking the community. This is a new and radical Way to look at non-profit fund development, as well as, social entrepreneurship is, and definitely not the status quo, but is no less necessary, if the non-profit wants to survive in this new economy. This is a way for the non-profit, take their destiny into their own hands, less and less burden on society and win the long-term sustainability in difficult economic times.
Thanks Rebel for confirmation of our strategy and give us the tools we need, to execute this plan and move our agency, far into the future!
